OPIS

Starts September 2007 The focus of the courses offered by the Master of Science in International Business is the internationalisation of businesses and related international activities. The internationalisation process may take many forms, but for most companies, internationalisation is mainly through exports, i.e. sales to other countries, via direct investments abroad (DI), i.e. the establishment of sales and production units abroad or via international strategic alliances. Consequently, international businesses need employees who possess extensive expertise, while at the same time having a thorough understanding of the internationalisation process. As an employee in a company with an international outlook, you must be able to conduct market analyses. You must also be able to carry out cost-benefit analyses of possible market expansion. You must be able to plan and head the implementation of FDI, whether foreign direct investment takes the form of the establishment of a new subsidiary or the acquisition of an existing one. At the same time, it is essential, in connection with export activities as well as FDI, that you as an employee are familiar with and understand the frameworks within which international businesses operate, including cultural differences, but also the influence of organisations such as, e.g., the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the EU. The international aspect not only makes an appearance in connection with the establishment of subsidiaries, but in all daily operations. The management and control of subsidiaries abroad is therefore an area which you, as an employee in an international business, must master. It comprises both international strategic planning and human resource management as well as financial management and performance evaluation of foreign subsidiaries. All with due consideration being given to possible cultural implications.
